Thank you for being here to day with DantheDad. This is a refelction of something that happened to me a couple days ago.

Entry: 04/03/2026

Too many times, we get caught up worrying about the metaphorical “sand” in our children’s lives.

Things have to be perfect.
Parenting has to be done a certain way.
No mess. No chaos. No sand in the car, because we take pride in keeping things clean, controlled, and respectable.

To us, a dirty car can feel like a lack of discipline… a lack of respect for what we’ve built.

But kids?
Kids don’t care about the sand.

They don’t care about the water, the mud, the bugs, or the mess.
They care about one thing:

“Dad brought me here.”

That’s it.

In their world, today wasn’t about the sand getting everywhere.
It was about the fact that they got time with you.

You showed up.
You were there.
You made the day happen.

And in their eyes?

You’re the best.

Don’t let the sand distract you from the moment that actually matters.

I’ve spent time thinking about what it really takes for kids to be present—and it’s simple. They already are. They live in the moment naturally.

They’re not worried about schedules.
They don’t care if things are fast or slow.
They don’t care that you have somewhere else to be.

They just want you.

They want you to jump in the water with them.
To build the castle.
To eat the hotdog on the beach.
To laugh when the waves hit harder than expected.
To splash each other like nothing else in the world matters.

Because to them, nothing else does.

But as fathers, we drift.

We look around.
We think about how we appear.
We wonder if we look put together, successful, impressive.

We sit back, trying to be “cool,” holding onto an image that doesn’t serve us anymore.

That time has passed.

This is the time that matters.

Right now, standing in front of you, are the people who see you as their hero.
Their example.
Their standard for what a man is.

They’re not watching how clean your car is.
They’re watching how present you are.

So be that.

Be the strength they look for.
Be the man who shows up fully.
Be the dad who doesn’t mind the sand.

Because one day, the car will be clean again.

But they won’t be this little forever.

Remember you got this. You have everything in you to be successful. Change your life one day at a time and remember, tomorrow is another day to give it another try. Be patient, be loving, be a father you want to be.
